Harvest in town............

Here is a run down of the silos in town............mostly wheat is grown in our area...........34 deg cel today good harvest weather........town is a hive of activity.............trucks in and out everywhere.........headers (harvest machines) moving thru............the other day I saw a massive field bin....(storage bin used on the farm)

this is the start of the line up of trucks...........(hope your watching AC)

then around the corner and way back further.............2-3 wide lined up here...........lots lined up........must be about 100 trucks around the silo area.................

they are all waiting to come here..........first stop is to get the grain tested..............

Then they drive onto the weigh bridge to be weigh............and told where to go........

..........there are several piles of grain dumps............some grain was here before they started............

there are trucks moving around out there everywhere so I had to be careful where I got..............not get in the road............

these grain augers are amazing...........very big.........

unloading wheat into a bunker..............all gets tarps over it when not in use.............here it looks like a sand pile..............

I think there are 5 bunker dumps they are putting the wheat into..............

We'll see how much this one grows during harvest...............

I won the battle with the mice also............yippee................

take care til next time............Chookyblue.............

PS lots to show and tell you about but I need to take some more pics ..........

That would bring the mice for shore.
There is a lot of wheat.I bet they get lots of birds there.

Yes I see them - I was obviously looking in the old/wrong place. How I can miss so many trucks is beyond me... having a momentary lapse...

Hi. I don't know much about farms or wheat. Does thae wheat stay in these bunkers or is it put into silos? Thanks Cherrie

Wow! Great pics, interesting post. I don't normally get to see anything like that living where I do. Thanks for sharing. Glad you got the mice. That must be a relief.

Great to see harvest is going well. My husband works for the railways and I was leaving his work the other week and was pulled over by two ladies(from Germany I think) wanting to know what was stored in the silos and bins, had to give a quick 2 minute rundown on wheat and harvest.Happy days.

Hey Donna! Great photos! Wheat is grown west of Toowoomba, so we see these huge piles of wheat at this time of year too. It always amazes me. Glad you won the war against the mice. We waged war on rats recently. They weren't getting INTO the house or nesting, just coming out of the sewers on dusk to hold clog dancing competitions in the ceiling! Aaarrgghhh!! Noisy! And they destroyed my passionfruit vine - but not any more!! Starting work on Secret Santa gift this weekend! Bear Hugs! KRIS

Not used to this size in little Norway, he he...
Do you harvesting twice a year or once?

That was very interesting. Neat to see the journey my wheat goes through before I buy it and grind it to make my bread.

Looks like a good harvest out your way this year. My heart breaks when I think of my cousin in SA who will be lucky to get seed for next year. Great pics- unless you've seen it you can't imagine the scale of farming here.

.....am guessing that the photos were taken at C........Similar scenes around here...no wonder DH prefers the on-farm dumping rather than the silo lineups...only has to wait for the header to fill him ...but....must remember Thimbleannas advice next time, SEND SOME KNITTING WITH HIM LOL!!!

Thanks so much Donna - being a city-dweller, I really enjoyed the photos and your descriptions.

Yes, it looks just like harvest season in SD. The grain elevators could be twins.

Yours images brought back memories. I grew up in a very small farming community Central West NSW and I remember this time of year well. It always meant that summer was here, Christmas was around the corner and beautiful birds were out and about feeding on the sides of the roads where grain had spilled.
Hope the farmers have a bumper harvest this year!

I'm sitting here with a smile on my face imagining what those farmers sitting in line were wondering ?????? when they saw this women with a camera roaming around taking photos. We are heading home today so I expect there will be similar activity along the way.
