Road Trip.........

My Xmas in July swap parcels have been loaded onto a sleigh and heading for______??????

Fairy Girl also sent her Xmas decoration swap parcels.........

But Fairy Girl and I had a little road trip..........40 years since man landed on the moon and we went to see where all the info was processed...........Parkes Observatory............this thing is huge..........64 metres across........there was thousands of people there..........travelling from everywhere............talks, planetarium(?), tours up the tower (if you lined up for hours - I didn't).......it was wonderful..........spoke to one of the men that works in that little box at the top...........he said he may go up and down a dozen times a day and the dish gets moved even if he is up there .............that is a long way up........

the technology they had then compared to now is mind blowing so how they did what they did 40 years go is AMAZING............well worth the trip...........

here are some other sites along the way........must also say the country side looks so beautiful with all the crops coming up hope the season goes with them.............

the monument is on top of the lookout in Parkes.............it it really high...........a view from the lookout........also Peak Hill Open Cut Gold Mine - now disused...........

We finished up having the day sewing with the wonderful Narromine Club Quilt girls............thanks for hosting me and Fairy Girl today...........it is lovely having someone to share time stitching............

Take Care til next time..............

PS thanks for all the comments on my errors with typepad I will catch up on the emails and get back to you all shortly.........

I remember going to the Parkes Observatory when I was just a little girl. It was fascinating then and one day I will make a return visit. So glad you and Fairy Girl had such a lovely day together.

Great pics. Would hate to be the person going up and down to the little box! Sure would get your exercise for the day though!

Hey Donna! Sounds like you had a wonderful adventure! We only managed to visit Parkes once when we lived in Bourke and then were kept so busy with activities with friends there that we didn't get out to see "The Dish" in person - so your photos were a virtual visit for me! :0) Great pics! Hope you're keeping warm and well! Bear Hugs! KRIS

What a great trip! You should have called and said hello to me, I'm right on the highway you would have driven passed me, anyway next time. They said it was great at the dish. Narromine ladies are a lovely group aren't they.
Take care.

My Hunney introduced me to a little movie called 'The Dish', what a hilariously funny movie. I'd love to visit and see where all the action took place, what a wonderful piece of history to have close by. Thank you for sharing.

I thought it was Honeysuckle Creek? That's where the pictures were taken - maybe the info processed at Parkes? I can't remember. My astronomical history isn't that great!

Christmas in July sounds like fun!

Hello Donna, Glad to hear you had a great day out with your Fairy Girl. Hard to believe it all happened 40 years ago and Australia played a very important part in the moon landing. What did Fairy girl sew at your sewing day, would be interested to see how she is getting on. Happy days.
