Dust.......

OMG I am sure lots on the east coast of Australia will be suffering from this dust this morning..............we didn't have the dust until sometime during the night...........the lightning was amazing when I was driving home from work............but no rain...........this morning this is what greats us..............

it is worse then the pics........not sure if it is cloudy or sunny cause I can't tell.............and the wind has picked up again....................I feel sorry for the people who have lost all this dirt...............

just went back out and got some more pics.............can see the dust a bit more now..........

and also found the sun..............well it just looks like a dot...........there is dirt on everything and no rain forecast for weeks to clear it all off............

all I can say is think goodness I have been too busy with all the other work here to start cleaning up the house for our visitors we will have very soon.........this is the time you wished you didn't have verendahs............OMG have I got some cleaning to do- inside and out.............my old house doesn't seal the dust too well
Take Care til next time..............

Oh Chooky, I feel for you. I saw the duststorms on the news last night - everywhere was RED and it looked like midnight before 4oclock in the afternoon!
Thank goodness it doesn't happen too often!
Take care ;o) Wendy B

Hi Donna, sorry you didn't get any rain with the storms. It is very dusty here near Tamworth too, we did manage to squeeze out 28 mil here at home. Yesterday I was up at Kerry Swains and it rained there all day. I thought it was foggy this morning, but wondered why the bedroom smelt so dusty!!! Thought I might have to sack the cleaner!!!!

I'm on the East coast and we had a bit of rain but your photos are exactly what it's like here this morning, ha, I though it was fog at first.

Wow, we do not get anything like that here in Ohio, USA. I can not imagine the clean up after such a thing.

I just saw pictures from Sydney on the news, can't belive it.
We are suppose to get some in Brisbane too, all that dirt being blown out to sea.
It is very dry and windy here too.Feel for everyone on the land

Hi Chooky. It is pretty much the same here in Scone. Thick layers of dust everywhere and the smell. Even the dogs have a layer of dust on them!!! Thankfully the inside of the house has not suffered but the outside is another story. Have sent the kids to school and am hoping the teachers have the good sense to keep them inside. Would have kept them home but I have to work today myself out on a horse stud (only in the office though) but I can imagine it will be disgusting out there. Lets all pray for some rain to wash it all away. Cheers Kylie

Hi Donna

Oh, you poor things! Such a horrible mess to clean up and I guess it could last for days. Outback Tania in Pt August had the same thing but obviously from a different direction. It was raining mud there. Just amazing. We live in a wierd and wild country.

Oh Chooky, I feel for you. I saw the duststorms on the news this morning!!...the sky looked red from all the dust..
It might be best to stay indoors...what about the kids, do they have to go to school, our holidays start here on friday..
Take care. Julia ♥

I hate dust with a passion too. Can feel for you having an old house in this situation. No amount of no-more-gaps and sticky tape stops the stuff getting in. Hope its short lived and there are not too many more dust storms this Summer. Poor farmers.

So sorry for you dust, it is the worst . Although we have the wind at the moment but not the dust. South brisbane had the dust and wind as well yesterday.
Take Care and good luck on the cleaning frount.

Oh, dear - not good - what is going on with our crazy weather! It reminds me of our early days in Mount Isa, the portable mobile aircon would spit out water and leave permanent red spots on the sheets. Wish I could send you our rainy, cold weather!

Dear Chooky, If i lived closer i would help you with the cleaning of all that dust. Could not believe the photo's on the news this morning and feel for all of you down there. I no how you must feel with living on a property and it getting so dry here the dust from the cattle yards when we muster drives me nuts but we ladies just get on with it and clean it all up when it is over.

Hey Donna! Yep ... that's what it's like here in Toowoomba today, too, with gale force winde blowing it around - not fun to be outside!! And like you, we have an old style house, so I think I have almost enough dirt in the hallway to create a vege patch! :0) Not looking forward to cleaning up, but am refusing to think about it until I really have to. Off to hide in the sewing room for the arvo - not going outside!!! Bear Hugs! KRIS

That's just horrid. I'll be thinking of you, cause cleaning dusting and vacuuming is not exciting work. Hang in there. Will the crops / plants be okay?

Oh Chooky I really wish I could get mother nature to send some of the rain we've had lately upto you guys. We've had a really wet winter and even had flooding in places overnight. My throat got itchy just watching the news this morning, I'm so glad I'm not in the middle of it!

I watched the pictures on the news, half an hour ago. The skies were all orange.

I understood this kind of sandstorm has never happened before?

Take care!

I remember the two Mallee dust storms of the 80s. The second one hit when I was halfway home from school on my bike. Not so nice.

I too just look at all that topsoil and feel for teh farmers who have lost it.

It's an amazing occurence. I think I heard that one time the dust blew all the way to New Zealand and covered the snow... Hope your fabrics are sealed away!!

Oh yucky-good luck with all the cleaning

Thinking of you...good luck with the dusting!

Chooky, I have decided the weather is bonkers. Cold and wet here, boiling hot in Q'land and all kinds of crazy in the middle and Victorian earthquakes....
Seriously who is running this show ???

Oh dear, Chooky! I saw pictures on the news here tonight. Has it all settled there now?

I remember a similar storm here in 1983.

How terrible for you all. Living in Oklahoma I know how it feels to have all that red dirt in the air. I'm doing a rain dance for you right now!

So sorry you copped all that dust. We get it too but never at this time of year nor as widespread. I guess the topsoil isn't really lost, just relocated.
