help............

Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong.
This is the bobbin side of the fabric and every so often this is
happening...............looks like it is an extra loop.............when I
unpicked some it was like the extra thread came from the top but then I was
sewing again and I thought the bobbin area made the funny noise................
it is usually a little more matted under this is after I have pulled at it a little

Does anyone have any suggestions/ideas............Mr Chookyblue is having a
fiddle at the moment but has no idea so we will see if he can work something
out.
ME - i am useless
Take Care til next time..............
Chookyblue
to add......I had changed the needle and tried different bobbins................the mess is about 1cm -1.5cms area in length....

Im not very good with this type of thing, but I do find if you put a bit of Oil in the right spots - often it fixes the minute problem. There should be one spot on the holder that holds the bobbin where you can put a drop of oil?? Alternatively, wind a new bobbin with a good quality thread - sometimes this does the trick too?? sorry I cannot be more helpful, but good luck

I would unthread everything, wind a new bobbin and rethread my machine, but first be sure to clean the bobbin casing and blow out the top of the machine with canned air. You probably just have a little piece of lint stuck some place.

Is your bobbin tight enough. Have you undone the plates around the feeddogs and cleaned out the dust. It'll probably all work tomorrow when you switch it back on. I think that is part of the Murphy's Law Syndrome. LOL Cherrie

Okay. This isn't much help, but I'm with Cherrie. I would give it a little rest, cause it's probably tired. Try again tomorrow. (I know! You thought you were hopeless!!!) All the suggestions are good ones. And after I had tried them all I would give it a rest!

Hey Donna! I've had something similar happen a few times and it's ususally the bobbin not feeding properly. You know where you feed the thread through to keep it in the bobbin casing and give it a little tug to make sure it's running the right way? I don't know about yours, but that casing on my machine has a little screw that controls the tension on the bobbin thread feed and it works itself loose sometimes. When I've tightened that so the thread doesn't run through unchecked, it seems to sort out the loose stitching. Of course, a couple of times it's also cos I've had the bobbin in upside down - DOH! :0) And if nothing works - have a cup of tea and do some hand stitching! :0) Bear Hugs! KRIS
(hope that all made sense!!)

It could be some lint in all the wrong places... otherwise get mad and throw the bobbin, get yourself something cold to drink and try again later. :)

The first thing I do when I have a problem with my machine is to make sure I've threaded it right. Then check to make sure the bobbin thread is the same as the top thread (don't ask me why, I find that makes a difference), then give it a good cleaning with my lint brush and finally oil it. Usually this works for me.

Is this a different thread in your bobbin, possibly a different weight than you normally use. M

I will ask the boss tomorrow at work what she thinks, if its a Janome we should be able to work it out, I too would wind a fresh bobbin, give the bobbin area a good blow out with some dustaway and see if that helps. Will pot here again if we come up with a solution :)

that should read I'll post here lol

Sorry I'm clueless! Maybe a glass of wine and a block of chocolate!!

The first thing I would do is change the needle ,a burr can cause this to happen , check to see also if the needle is the proper size for what you are sewing .next it is important that the thread in the bobbin be the same as on the top , sometimes that can be the problem .
Hope this helps , I am sure it is not a huge problem though .

Sorry to hear the news chooky and hope you can fix - I'm absolutely hopeless and my machine has been plying up a lot this year. I have had to borrow a friend's at the moment, and am scouring the catelogues for a newby

I've had something similar happen to me, except not with such big loops!....it almost sounds like the machine is chewing up my fabric!!!.....but usually I just rethread and make sure the thread is tensioned correctly in the bobbin...have you tried what Kris described....? I think that's what I'm trying to explain, although with mine,I just have to make sure it loops through the tensioner(???) bit...don't know about the screw...I guess it depends upon the machine...I've got a Janome.
...otherwise, it may be time to pay a visit to the sewing machine doctor!!! {sigh} Good luck...I hope something works soon for you!
sugary hugs :O)

If this loop is from the top thread I would completely rethread the machine on top. The stitches immediately before the loop look a little 'pokey' too, and it could be your top tension that's the problem. Make sure that your bobbin is in the right way, and that the thread is in the tension spring properly. While you're there clean out the fluff- take off the plate over the feed dogs and clean them out too.Change the needle.Sometimes you don't even know what you did to fix things, but it all settles down and sews nicely again.

Sorry to say but usually when that happens to my machine it has to go to the machine doctor. And it always seems to happen when Im trying to get xmas presents made!

Mine does this occasionally. My service guy said I should hold the thread between my fingers to make sure when the bobbin is wound that there is a little more tension/tightness when the thread winds on. Hope this helps and you understand what mean. My machine is 40 years old, I'm sure the new machines wind on better than this.

Hey, I just read through the other comments. If all else fails I like the glass of wine and chocolate option!!!

Hello Donna, It could be how the bobbin thread was wound, was it near the end of the bobbin, this is not wound as tight. Dust is a major problem in my machine, if I give everthing a good clean out it seems to work better. Hope you manage to solve it. Nothing worse than a machine in the sick-bay.

Hi Donna, check if your bobbin hasn't jumped out of it's little spot. Sometimes my bobbin jumps a little to the right and so takes up more thread then it should. Just click it back over to the correct side and it might work. Mine got really bad and needed a service.

Hi,
Loops like this can be caused from a blunt needle, changing the needle is something we regular sewers often forget to do.

Recently I was having trouble with my machine and took it in to be cleaned. The repair man said packed inside the botton was like a felt pad. He explained to me how this happened...canned air forces the stuff in the back. Wonderful cleaner but notdown in the bobbin area.

g'day chooky... I had a similar problem with a turkey of a Janome machine I used to sew with.. it was my bobbin case.. I took the whole thing apart, got the brush out and removed the wadding that had grown under there.. worked a lot better after this.. I also had eliminated the tension ( a certain child who was threatened with death fiddled with the tension knob), I put in a new needle and newly filled bobbin.. If all else fails read your manual! LOL or find a yahoogroup for your machine, you maybe able to get help that way too

My janome was such a lemon in the end I ended up lashing out this year and replacing it, am I happy???Ohhhh yes.... !

if all the things mentioned fail....i would ask sant to bring you a new one! good luck!

Nobody else has mentioned it, but it might be the timing. When the timing was out on mine it was skipping stitches and making some too long. If it is the timing, then it needs a trip in to be serviced...It's the only thing I can think off.

This is really obvious and I'm sure you would have checked, but is your machine needle in the wrong way?

You could try a bobbin washer (a little silicon circle that sits under the bobbin. I have a basic janome and find that I get thread nests and all sorts of things at the back. Not long ago I gave up and was ready to take it to the Machine Man, but after a few days rest I tried again and it works. Who knows?
