flooded again..........

Well the new year came with a down pour like Christmas...............in the last 8 days we have had over 10 inchs which is a little under 1/2 our yearly average...........2009 total rain fall was just over 20inchs...........
I am so exhausted today...........we have slopped around in the mud and flood water (safely Miriam I promise) all day.....I have found muscle in my legs I forgot I had......the flood water came into our house yard (much higher then last weeks flood) and was threatening to go thru the shed like the 2007 flood.........lucky it hasn't......this is officially the 3rd biggest flood at our house since Grandma moved here many, many years ago.............Bookworm has slide down silty dam banks, made a raft, helped us get the pets calves out of flood water, rescued a few chooks who still have flood water running thru their chook house, helped us lift everything essential in the shed in case it flooded and played with his dogs with his surf board in the flood water (not is the fast running areas).......here are some snaps from yesterday and today.......I was loving my new gumboots yesterday but today they got a rest today as the flood water is too deep......we already know we have some fencing to do............not sure about stock yet but hoping they are all safe.......hopefully we have missed the thunder storms forecast tonight.......there will be a few nervous people in town tonight as the flood water hits..........enjoy the pics I am going to fall into bed............
.

.........take care til next time..... a soggy Chookyblue.........

You poor things - hope the rain stays away tonight so that you can get some rest. Your photos are amazing - just love the close up shots of those poor insects just hanging on. I do hope that things will subside soon - thinking of you.

Three cheers for Bookworm for being such a great help today!
The water is very close to your house!!
I love the photos of the insects keeping dry on the fence wire.
I hope all your stock are safe too.

Sleep well, and I hope there is a little less water around you in the morning.

Thank you for sharing these pictures. How fascinating and scary. How impressive bookworm is. All the bugs and wildlife come out seeking higher ground? And that spider - is that a tarantula? I hope you get a break from the rains and a well-deserved rest.

Your photos is amazing. Hope both you and the animals are safe. Take care.

Kaaren said...

Are the flood waters as a result of a river or creek overflowing it's banks or is it just too much water at once with no where to go?

I hope the animals are okay. I know you all are. Stay safe.

WOW you are having a bit of rain.. your pic's are great... the country side will look totally amazing after the flooding... I live in the outback of WA on a sheep station and we get flooded when there are cyclones up north... dirty red water... it has gone through the house twice since we have moved into it... and the smell is horrible... the first time it took 6 months to dry out my middle daughter was constantly sick from the dampness... but the feed that we had was just wonderful

I can't imagine receiving that amount of rain and in such a short time. Hope everything is ok and you are coping. If you don't want anymore rain send it my way - we desperately need it. The approx inch we had the other night really hasn't done much apart from make the weeds grow. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.

What a water problem. We had over 15" of rain in December but because we are several feet above any river, we didn't have anything but small ponds in the yard: there was a lot of flooding elsewhere. Since we lost several bridges around here, I do understand what you are going through. I really loved your photos of the insects that were hiding out, together, on the fence and elsewhere.

Beautiful photography. I hope your stock are safe, we get summer floods here and the river takes our fences and leaves slime in exchange. Good luck. I'm sending you dry vibes.

Woops when I prayed for rain for you I forgot to say how much. We have delayed our hols due to the rain and I keep saying to DH that this amount of rain was good for the farmers and we shouldnt complain. So stop the rain already enough is enough.
Take care Chooks you are in my thoughts.
I agree with Vanessa very weird comment.

Hopefully it has reached the dams and has filled them nice and full and not just flooded everywhere out! One thing though, there will be plenty of green once it subsides! Pity we can't bucket it up and send it over to the WA fires!! I remember saying that this time last year for the Vic fires too when we had floods up here in Qld. Hope you're all safe.
sugary hugs :O)

...of droughts and flooding rains.

You have captured the flood so well with your beautiful pictures. I hope when it subsides that the water has done some good to the countryside and that damage is minimal. Obviously a big clean up ahead of you.

Cheers - Joolz
