cattle work.........

Had to do some cattle work...................
it is very dry............we need some rain................
We had to treat the cattle for Buffalo Fly..........never had them before........poor cows..........they flick, they twitch., they rub their eyes and sides and just don't stand still..........sore eyes...........
they just don't leave them alone...............imagine yourself with a pile of mozzies or flies annoying you.............oh and for those of you who don't have to deal with flies and mozzies think yourself lucky...............it was hard to get  some pics with my phone it is a little slow on the capture and they kept moving........
It has been busy here the last week or 2............with work both here and the job that pays..........
would swap the farm for an inner city apartment right now............the bugs of a night in the lights have been bad so no sewing...........even had to turn the laptop off the other night as they were hitting me in the face so much...........and as for the burning off in cropping paddocks I am sick of smelling smoke most afternoons lately.................it's dry..... it's warm....it's dusty...............I need a change............rain and cool weather would be nice and fix most complaints................back soon with some sewing inspiration hopefully.............
in the mean time I'll be cleaning up for the pile of visitors I am expecting during the school holidays..........nice once they get here just the panic I go thru prior to there arrival getting everything sorted and organsied.
......so if I am quiet don't worry.........
.....and I need to show you my finished Gardener's Journal............need to take some pics............
Catch you later..............
Chookyblue
PS better go and hide I can here a truck full of sheep returning and I don't want to help unload the truck.....I loaded lambs on one this morning............fun fun...........
PSS and I forgot the stupid mice thanks Perri  ............to many of those critters around.........
......and the best news of the day DAYLIGHT SAVINGS ENDS TODAY YIPPEE

LOL
You wouldn't even want to be outside for too long here today - let alone with the flies, mozzies and another truck load of sheep :)

You take me back to my childhood. I think I could swap for a week.

Totally understand, Chooky ... but, you forgot to mention 'mice' ... we have a bit of a 'mouse' problem at the moment ... we treated for buffalo fly last weekend and I drew the short straw to help brand etc last Monday ... they joys of being a farmers wife ... thankfully we are very green here :-)
Happy stitching, P

How I used to hate daylight savings, especially when I lived on the farm as a kid...throws everything out of whack! Hope you get some rain soon. Here in the West we don't have daylight saving, or much rain for that matter :)

Here's hoping for rain and a cool down for you guys, I don't like the heat and bugs either I'm feeling for you. Oh yes I forgot we had to change the clocks tonight! xo

Thanks for sharing your life on acres. it is just soo much work for you, and yes I do hope you get some rain soon. Imagin that yo would be very pleased with DLS finishing.

I know you farming people generally dont like daylight saving - but oh how I wish Qld would take the plunge and at least put it in for the south east corner - the frustrations of Sydney & Melbourne being an hour ahead from a business point of view - and the fact that it is dark almost as soon as I get home from work is truly annoying and on top of the dreadful summer weather that lasts for more than 6 months the year I do not understand why people want to move to Qld!!
Sorry I will shut up now and go back to 'enjoying' 30 degree heat and high humidity. BLAH

You can come and stay at my place any time, Chooky! The only livestock here in our back yard are our two cute little dogs. Oh, and Annie lives just down the road. Are you packed yet?

Can't say anything else than I hope tomorrow brings relief.

I'd send you some of our rain if I could. It's pouring here. So if you want a break in a place where wellies and waterproofs are essential holiday wear jump on a fast jet and I'll get the spare bedroom ready. There is nothing to do here but stitch... bug free!

We badly need rain too, Donna - but those poor cattle - I'll never complain again!

Day light saving & rain - unknown concepts in the West but after reading your post I am newly contented with my office job & lack of creepy crawlies, let alone that lizard you showed us recently. I hope you get a share of the rain others hve had too much of soon. Tracee xx

I feel happy to see the end of the long drawn out daylight savings as well....Having a bit of a storm here at present...I'll try to send some moisture in your direction....

Hope you get some rain soon. I am so glad to be seeing the end of DLS. I just don't understand why we need it in the first place, and then if we do have it why does it have to go on for so long? Sorry for the whinge. My excuse is that I spend all summer being grumpy from that one hour lack of sleep. Tonight I get it back!

I hope you get some rain soon! But if you need some water you could always come to the beach!!

I hope you get some rain soon. We have had a drought here too, with fires and such, but we finally got quite a bit this week, I hope it was enough to be some good help. Sometimes the lightning that comes with a rain starts more fires. I feel for your poor cattle, I don't know why weeds and insects always seem to thrive, when good things seem to have to work so hard.

Oh those flies!! How awful... poor moo cows... I hope the spraying helps. I must say, I am not missing the Aussie flies... but we have plenty of mozzies here to make us feel at home!
Hang in there.. rain and cool weather will come...
lv,
Joy

You're welcome to come visit here if you want a break from bugs, mice and heat. You will need snow clothes though - apparently winter just doesn't want to leave. ;o)

Hope you get some rain and a break, Chookyblue.

Brings back memories of my childhood. I can remember sitting in the dark just to get some relief from the insects. It's a hard life but when it's in your blood.......

Chooky

i have a nice little 3 bedroom in suburbia

i'll swap you........
funny how the grass is always greener, i loved doing cattle work with my pop when i was young, loved riding horses and having my cuppa made off the campfire....used to annoy him that i wanted milk in my tea....lol
although the bugs sound pretty annoying

Oh Chooky, i hope it rains for you soon and you get to leave the cattle and have some time without bugs. I feel the visitors prep. I am holding an engagement do for my son and his fiance over Easter and I am feeling your stress on that. Many are camping in our back yard.

If you want rain and cool weather come and visit me

Chooky, we have had the best summer conditions for so long - green grass all summer. An inch of rain every week. It has led to other problems, but I am loving it. I feel your pain country girl..

sending you some cool weather--40F here tonight. And a light drizzle with plenty of wind. Another month and we'll be planting corn and soybeans, and you'll be into fall. I've been up on the alleyway pouring cattle or putting flytags in. Remember to keep your mouth closed--somehow you always end up with *fertilizer* on your face or swallowing a bug.

Buffalo fly, poor cattle. very dry here too, depressing seeing it so dry again. On the good side, it is so nice with DS gone! Enjoy your visitors when they come.
