yuck yuck yuck.............

I wanted rain we are desperate for rain.................we have cattle out on the road (eating the grass along the road) because we are running out of feed for them here...........we are giving the sheep some feed.......then last night finally we had some rain.............27mls which is a good start lets hope we get some follow up rain.............we have only had under 40ml for the whole year.............so things were getting bad.......
.......but when the rained poured down last night I was cursing it.............not long before the rain started the power went out..............we had gotten into bed after a big weekend and dh decided to check the remote rain gauge in the hall and could "SMELL" something......................
long story short a "STINKING" drain was backflowing into my kitchen...............we had water going everywhere over the floor...........it was dark and trying to work out where it was coming from and stop it was challenging.........anyway we had a massive mess to clean up in the dark...........we have mopped the floor several time with disinfectant nice smelly stuff........
.......BUT THE KITCHEN STILL STINKS.......
....not sure if it leaked in under some of the cupboards.....or into the edge of the carpet at one doorway............I have floorboards.....
......ANY TIPS ON CLEANING would be appreciated otherwise please DON'T comment - I can't cope with everything at the moment.............life is too busy...............i'm going to let the cows out and dh can deal with the kitchen..............we have about 5 loads of towels to wash too...........we just threw them out onto the lawn last night.............
.........take care til next time.....Chookyblue.........
I'd got around some blogs before the mess but I just haven't managed to leave comments which is unusual for me so if I usually visit and comment know i have been there.............

White Vinegar & water to mop and clean.

That's terrible Chooky. Try some Eculyptus Oil. Put it in your mop water and also put it straight on to paper towel and wipe out the cupboards and hard surfaces with it. I hope that helps.

Some prayers added....To disinfect use 1/4 cup borax to 1/2 gal hot water...

to clean toilet bowls use the above and drizzle a little white vinegar in the mixture...you mentioned "smelly" stuff so I thought it might be good to use ...

Oops....that wouldn't be the raindrops I sent!!!...I'd say disinfectant (like you've used) and get it dry as soon as you can....a coolish heater or fan of some sort....wish I could come and help....

bi carb may help with the smell once it is dry. Sprinkle freely and leave overnight. I've used this on a nasty boy smell on the floor tiles of a toilet room with great success. Cherrie

oh dear Donna, I know this is not funny, but you have to imgaine the visuals in my head as I was reading your post...
yep I am with Fee, euclyptus oil, or lavender oil, any jolly good smelling good quality oil really, and clean as Fee suggests.
It is very hot here in our summer as you know, and I usually leave a cotton wool ball with eucalyptus oil in the bottom of the rubbish bin and that works well to avoid nasty smells

Hi Chooky, went through two of those same events. . . in a period of 2 weeks.

Clean up company advised to use "brown bottle Lysol" but DH & I have used that & a commercial strength germicidal bleach followed-up by the Lysol & laundry detergent.

Of course, these were US items so you might have different in AU. . . and we were working with tiles & linoleum so that could be a difference also.

Good luck!

Oh Donna, I know I shouldn't laugh, But !!! lol
It reminds me of the time we had a decorative jar of chillis and herbs explode in our kitchen about 2am one morning. We leapt out of bed when we heard this huge explosion to be greeted with the sight of very smelly chillis sliding down our kitchen walls, ceiling and cupboards.
It was so bad we just stood there and laughed.

We had a flood which soaked into the carpet and got smelly. Used a dehumidifier to remove the moisture and it definitely helped with the smell. Good luck!

After 3 days i think i will be brave and just say, "Bugger". Any ideas i had have been discussed and are too late anyway. pleased you got the rain anyway...we are tho opposite, still struggling to get any crop in because it is far too wet here...amazing country.
So, burn a smelly candle and do some sewing while eating chocolate, that's the best advice I have! Tracey

Hope things are looking up since your own personal flood.....no good at all. Lots of good tips from lovely bloggers....hope u found something that helped....white vinegar does work well with lots of things.....if u have any stains combine it with bicarb and it helps to dissolve them.
