We used to gather a lot of pinecones to start the fire in NZ. I remember David once driving home with a trailer load of firewood, the trailer came off the back of the car and care3ered across a 4 lane road, luckily no other cars were there at the time!kiwikidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02267387525703999696noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-222786315881803285.post-9755102787868489432022-07-07T12:25:20.154+10:002022-07-07T12:25:20.154+10:00Must be the time for finding old rabbit traps, whi...Must be the time for finding old rabbit traps, whilst cleaning out Dad's crap we found an old rabbit trap. :) Hugs, Jeanettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17132436602889338592noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-222786315881803285.post-26380751733628651842022-07-07T11:53:47.781+10:002022-07-07T11:53:47.781+10:00A great explanation for those that don’t think of ...A great explanation for those that don’t think of this as second nature. I loved wood collecting when we were kids. Dad always looked for fallen Timbers on a ridge line, as they burned hotter, being more dense, as slower growing. I remember before he had a chain saw and wound take a cross cut saw and wedges to split. We had a big circular saw in our shed, so he cut in longer lengths and then cut down at home. I remember that some woods smelled beautiful as they burned, or sometimes we burned the old stuff that dad would pull out of peoples houses, window frames with years of accumulated paint, they did not smell nice, but they were free firewood, so we burned them. (Dad was a carpenter, he used to build and replace windows).louleehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09814376067060612475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-222786315881803285.post-28119168889393084502022-07-07T08:57:26.459+10:002022-07-07T08:57:26.459+10:00Back when I was a kid my grandfather had a rabbit ...Back when I was a kid my grandfather had a rabbit trap.....he was an old bushie.
