Omg excited.....

I've been jealous seeing friends post about going to this quilt exhibition.......I had dreamed of going........I really didn't think it was going to happen as it finishes in a few weeks........A friend has a quilt in the exhibition and she organised a copy of the book for me............I really thought I had missed my chance.......
BUT I am going........a rash decision on a vague conversation............
I'm so excited it isn't funny........
My travelling partner has booked the flights and accommodation......
I can count on one hand how many flights I have been on........
I've been to Melbourne once before back in 2008 and it was where I meet my first blog friends.......a wonderful fun day I will never forget......
So now for your help............
how do you get from the airport to the city?????
trains buses trams taxis????
How far is it from the city (travel time etc)
where do the trams go.........
got to remember to look out for them........
I have no idea where anything is..........
any suggestions for eating etc inner city.........
I have no idea where we are staying but I know it isn't far from the gallery.........
And Lucello is on the hit list...........
help girls........any tips suggestions..........
OMG I am sooooo excited.......

Oh and if you have been to the exhibition what was your favourite quilt to see........
OMG SSSOOOOOOOO excited.........
Catch you later.......

WOW Lucky you. Melbourne reminds me of a European city. Especially Zurich. Enjoy

You just catch the Sky bus from airport to the city (Southern Cross train station), there is no tram or train option. You should be able to google how much the skybus fare is, if there are two of you, it might be similar to catching a cab, but I doubt it. I have no idea how far it is, but a good 30 minutes in traffic at a guess - because it does depend on the time of day. When you get into Southern Cross you can catch a tram (free) in the city. The trams within the CBD are free, otherwise you need to buy a metro card - but to understand how to buy one and when to use it, you will need to go find the public transport booth, which I assume there will be one at Southern Cross Station. I also found the reception at our hotel to be helpful regarding public transport etc. Melbourne is so busy, walking is my preferred option within CBD, but if you are outside of the city, then I hope your on or closest to the tram line, as that is easiest. Maps of tram lines will be online. Have fun, its a great exhibition, so worthwhile going to.

Oh Chooky how fantastic woohooo soooo exciting! I've been to Melbourne.....couldn't find one bad coffee! You must have a walk up and down Lygon Street (all Restaurants) at night where they try and entice you to eat in their Establishment! Such fun! Would love to go to Lucello's! You'll have a ball!

That is so wonderful! Sounds like the previous commenters have filled you in on transport from the airport etc. If you have a smart phone, there is a free App that helps with timetables and locations of stations and bus stops.
I love Melbourne but its big compared to Brisbane, but it must seem HUGE to you! lol
I look forward to the posts you write about this adventure. xx

I am not much help as I seldom go to the city as I live on the Mornington Peninsula. As far as the airport goes, you can catch a bus from the airport but you need to know which one. Hubby and I usually employ a local limo service as as they as almost the same cost as a taxi but they give a standard cost which is helpful if caught up in traffic etc. Hubby cannot travel on the airport bus as it is not wheelchair accessible. The chauffer helps us into the airport etc with all our luggage and is waiting for us when we return. Sorry I can't hep but you will LOVE the exhibition.

Oh wow. I was supposed to be there this week.
Yep sky bus. Half hour trip. Lucellos is only about 2 blocks walk from the exhibition.
Walk in the city.. get a map from federation square, 1 block between the exhibition and lucellos. Same corner as flinders st station. The brown tram is a tourist tram, free, and has talking commentary of things to see and where you are...
Enjoy your trip...
If I still lived there I would pick you up and take you into the city..

https://www.skybus.com.au/fares/.....I am a bit late to the conversation but you can see fares and but tickets at this site. Federation Square info centre is great to visit, they are down stairs, you can see the glass box entrance at street level. They have loads of info and are next door to where you are going for the exhibition. As Libster says have a walk around the city, many lane ways, food places, graffiti, wonderful window shopping, when are you coming to Melbourne? I can feel your excitement!!
