Is organisation really possible.......
This is some of the mess I have......
I wasn't going to take anything into the Chook Shed until I sorted everything....................I decided that was never going to happen as I couldn't cope with this mess in the dining room so I have taken almost everything to the shed over the weekend and slowly but surely I am getting through the boxes...........
Some things i know how I am going to sort them others still thinking...............trying to get everything sorted is a huge job but it will be worth it when i want something and I can find it..........
making lists of in progress projects and stuff I have got and not started...........
Lets just say if I died tomorrow or when i am 100 I have enough projects to last me a lifetime.............
&&&
1/2 the house has gone down with head colds and sore throats.......lets hope the rest of the house doesn't.............off work so will have a nanna nap and then get back to the shed..............
Catch you later
Chookyblue
PS Sorry about the MIA I have more to show and tell but life has interrupted.........some good some bad...........but hopefully I may even be back tomorrow............
PSS Do you have any sorting tips?????
What works for you???

I'm right there with you with knowing I can never live long enough to finish all my UFOs.
SORTING????????????
Not going there at the moment, Chooky, but I will be very envious when you are done and I still can't find my floor or my table top!
LOL a messy room is sign of a creative quilter. I have been cleaning my sewing room now for the last weeks. And have throwed away a lot of old things. Both fabrics and projects I know I never will work on again. And I gave a friend a big pile of quilt magazines I had not looked through for ages.
Good luck on your organizing :)
I recently moved to a new house and sorted all my fabrics and sewing stuff into boxes........and now I have trouble finding what I am looking for......maybe I should mess it all up like it was before?
sorry chooky i am no help i am way messier,i cant find anything.Hope your love ones get better soon.xx
Isn't that the hardest job...I need to do it too, but I'd rather be sewing.
Julia ♥
My goodness Chooky...LOL...I am sure it is creative....xx
I would be in 7th Heaven sorting all that out :o) It is one thing that I like to do, so satisfying when its all done. All my fabrics (larger than a fq) are on comic book boards and all lined up in colors for easy see. All buttons are in jars - sorted to colors. Robbons etc are all in a tub and all patterns are kept together and all WIP's have their own containers where everything is kept so all "ingredients" can be found when needed :o) Have fun
I put labels on everything so I can see at a glance where something is. Do a little bit of sorting each day and you will soon get through it.
Lovely room,I`d say; much like mine, imagine that!! We are probably like all over the world, lasting till we`re 200 years old will not help ... LOL ... butgood luck in organizing,Donna :-)
I came back a second time to see all the organisation tips!! As soon as I start organising I find things I have to do straight away.... hope all the coughs and colds clear up soon...
Hugz
Good luck! It looks like my sewing room at the moment....happy sorting
Have fun ... Looks like a wonderful stash you have there :)
Yes Chooky organization is really possible but it takes a while...you will get there gal! Now, about having projects till you are a 100...I think a lot of us would fall into that category! Don't forget...she who dies with the most wins ha ha!!! I love that saying...have a great week xo
Looks like my sewing room at the moment. My son is away this week so I have moved a lot of stuff, mainly for my online store, into his room so I can at least see the floor in the sewing room, and to get to the sewing machine. As for organisational tips - you are on your own there lol!
PS I find that I store fat 1/4 together....1/8 together/...and the metre ones together....little scraps in 1 basket...bigger ones in another...patterns basically together...at least then I can find fabric and patterns. Started projects and ready to go ones are in their own bag ready to pick up...
I'm no help to you in the organisation stakes, but at least now that you have the chook shed everthing should be in roughly the one place.....I have stuff all over the house, as I've no designated sewing room. I just need to stop buying and start sewing. I hope everyone gets better soon, nothing worse than feeling crook.
I'm a fairly organised person, but still haven't recovered from leaving my massive craft room in NSW for a much smaller space here in Perth. If I could stop buying new stuff, I could probably get a handle on it... but that's not going to happen any time soon LOL! Hope everyone is feeling better soon xxx
shed? do you have a new sewing shed? when did that happen? I am so out of touch!
sorting and rearrangling to put in order......maybe one day...I reckon a messy quilt room means I have character
Join the crowd with messy rooms-- creates creativity rather than chaos. Hope everyone is recovering from the colds.
That's an impressive collection of stuff. Enjoy finding all your treasures.
Gee we're a hopeless lot at organisational tips aren't we LOL
I am the last person you would come to for that!! As I am packing up all my sewing stuff at the moment I realise that I will probably never get organised!!
Hope you can keep the colds away....and life is treating you ok.
xx
Well I have to say I am pretty organised - I keep my fabrics sorted by colour in boxes - and labelled. I have separate boxes for each of my "on the Go" projects. and my threads are sorted in their boxes in numeric or colour order. Gosh I sound like a pain... then I measured up all my pieces of wadding and pinned a label to each piece and put them in separate bags. But the best tip I can share is to make lists in a word document so you can see what you have without actually pulling the bag of wadding out (as an example). I have a list of all the pieces of wadding, a list of each box that contains a project and I even have lists of all the threads in each range that I collect with the ones I own ticked off - so hopefully I don't double up when I go shopping for more.
Another thing I do (are you sorry you asked now??) is have a basket or two where I put stuff that I am finished with but don't have time to put away now. Then I can put stuff away in a bunch.
So you need lots of boxes, crates etc that can sit on top of each other (I have used the large boxes from the post office as they are cheap and sturdy) and labels. And time to do it.
Good Luck Donna
Hahaha, my sewing area looks a lot like yours, although over the years I've gotten better about keepng things organized. Not by much though. :) Look at all that space you have though, I'm jeaous!
So good to "hear your voice" again, and my studio is in precisely the same degree of disarray. Or worse. Perhaps I shall set a goal of having it all in order by the time you announce the -- oh, never mind, I wasn't going to nag you this year!
Bad me, instead of sorting my scraps I just found a tall laundry basket and dumped them all in it. I did go through lots of stash and donate some of my fabric to the thrift shop. I got rid of magazines, I don't need them anymore, cause I find everything I need on the internet. Also I'm trying to be good and put things away as a use them. Plus my husband put up shelves in my sewing room closet which really helped. But still it get's messy, I think I attract chaos.
Well I am happy that someone is just like me in a mess!! Seems to be my life story, never mind there is always something to do, happy sorting!!
Oh my, I'm so hopeless with sorting things!!! A good example is, when I last time sorted out one of the messy shelf, I organized it so well, that I lost one stitchery pattern... and now when I really need it, I can't find it! So I only can wish you better luck ;o)
Ah ! ah !!! we are of the same kind !! now I can't enter in my room I'm going to invade our dining room !!!
I HAVE to do sorting ... but when ??I must make some progresses on my projects of the next 120 years !!
Florence
Big hugs and happy sorting - I'm back from a week in country nsw and have big sorting plans of my own
Dear Chooky
I am sorry that you are dealing with illiness with your family and hope that everyone is well very soon.
As for your room..I have been there all too often but I find that sorting everything is really worth it. First off you will discover things that you had forgotten you had, and along the way when you sort the fabric bins you'll be inspired to do new projects or better yet complete some of the UFO"s. I have sorted all of my yardage by folding and wrapping it around the cardboard which comic book collectors use to store in palstic sleeves. (of course I don't use plastic) bur after wrapping the fabric, I use large rubber band to keep it neat. I store the farics upright (like a book) on my shelf and its amazing how much space it saves and it wonderful to see at a glance what you have. My scraps are cut into usable strips of varying sizes and some are cut into squares depending on how large the scraps are. I then store them by size in see through plastic boxes, don't forget to label the top of the boxes so that you know what size they contain. Anyway, this is just a few ideas. I hope they help.
Good luck
Cheers
maggie
Ohhh thank god!!! we are all the same lol... If I start to organise, then I cant find a damn thing!! But I like the ideas for sorting fabrics... I have SOOO much that I really should just give away as tastes change etc...so be strong when sorting and take one day at a time!
Oh dear....how many lifetimes were you talking about needing??.....My only suggestion wouldn't work for you, Chooky, and that is a drawer for new, unstarted projects (you may need a whole wall for that!!), a drawer for projects on-the-go (again, a wall perhaps!!...lol..), a cupboard for fabric, large pieces on one shelf, smaller on another (how many walls in this chook shed?...lol)...oh, bugger it, I'll have to drive down there and help!!!....that's the best option!!! ....and by the looks of the piccies I think some bubbles may be needed too!!!!...lol......
Wow what a collection, good luck with your sorting. I try and keep my current projects in their own boxes so I can pick each one up and have everything I need. Sad part is I have too many boxes accumulating with unfinished projects. Just think of all the treasures you will find that you forgot you had. Good luck
Hope you're nice and cosy in The Chook Shed. I find the sorting never ends - always seem to be moving things around.
I love your organisation skills. I have a job for you here when you are finished hehehe. ps love your Bee pincusion!!!!!
Love all the suggestions!-- I must be EXTREMELY creative!! And have Heaps of character!! LOL
You should share your space with others on Saturday's blog hop: Where Bloggers Create here: http://www.mydesertcottage.com
