On Wednesday when we were lamb marking Boy Wonder spotted an echidna moving over near the tank down the paddock....................on Thursday Fairy Girl spotted one walking in the garden.............
2 echidnas in 2 days...........OMG.......
Here he is digging himself into the ground............
I really don't want /need an echidna in the garden with a plastic lining pool..................
Boy Wonder to the rescue.............
He flipped it onto it's back...........not an easy task..............it's not so easy for them to get back on their feet but as he was trying to pick it up it got back onto it's feet.................
they are so cute.............
Rolled over again and picked up this time...........
Yes they are spikey and sharp spikes..........
I was NOT going to do this............
I was NOT going to do this............
Boy Wonder safely placed him at an ant nest OUT of my garden...............
Catch you later

Wow, those spikes......I don't think I would like to handle that either.
We had one once and a lady said to get a shovel and gently slide it under him....that worked. Apparently her Dad use to do it u back on the farm!
we had quite a few echidnas in our outer melbourne suburb last summer. Have lived her over 40 years and never seen one, even when there were lots of paddocks, but saw about 4 in the spate of a few weeks!
they are amazing.
Wow 2 in 2 days I haven't seen one in ages. They are very cute although very prickly.
Boy Wonder obviously has a light touch to be able to carry that prickly fellow.
How exciting to have 2 echidnas-- I would have been wearing very thick gloves to handle those spikes!
Great photos!
That is so cute! I felt one of those in the Australian Zoo when we visited! I am so pleased we don't have them here in NZ!

Back in Sept 2010, I posted on my blog about an echidna that wandered into my office.. the mechanic wore welding gloves to remove it....here is where I posted about it:

A cute little critter to be sure...do they eat ants? and boy wonder did a great job of picking him up and moving him...those are some long sticky spines to be sure.
What a gorgeous post - well done boy wonder you did a top job.
Top job, Boy Wonder! Those spikes look a bit -er um - spiky.
Been on a big road trip to Cunamulla, Quilpie and Charleville over the last few days and we also saw lots of Echidnas. An old aboriginal man told me echidnas on the move means rain.....Hope he was right????
WHOA! Good for Boy Wonder!!!

Great job Boy Wonder !!. Echidnas are very cute and it is amazing how fast they can dig into the ground..
Way cool! I never knew these creatures existed. Fantastically interesting - I had to go look it up online. PLUS: Your quilting is fun to look at! I'm glad I dropped in to visit (from a Yellow Roses link). Happy Stitching!
Wow, I've really only ever seen these in the story "Wombat Stew"! They look very cute but a litle too prickly for too much close contact!
So did you have to take him for a drive and relocate him?
Did you know your blog is a gateway to further education? Well it is. I just had to research the Echidna after seeing yours and I learned a lot. I did think it looked like a hedgehog on steroids but since finding out it lays eggs.. well... that is special. Lucky you for having one in your garden. If it eats all your ants I think you should put it on the payroll! Hugs...xx
I have never heard of that animal. We don't have them here in North Dakota....LOL. He was rather cute tho. Getting cold here too..I still have to cut down my flowers and get my flower bed ready for winter. Have a good day !
