We've talked about it for awhile but finally went bush with Deb @ Frog Cottage Designs.............
to a very different part of the world.........
Thank goodness Deb met me on the main road as it a myriad of roads in all directions with very limited sign postings.........maybe a car bonnet written on with paint etc.......
It's a wild bush area that doesn't grow a lot of feed and doesn't see a lot of rain but it's what is under the ground.............home of the black opal.........while I didn't go to Lighting Ridge I did go to another part of the opal fields.......Grawin, Glengarry, Sheepyards area............
The girls picked a turtle up on the main road and kept it over night before releasing it into a dam the next morning...........
such white dirt............opal dirt.......
quirky buildings........all "made do".......recycled heaven here.............
no electricity, town water or plumbing in most of the area...........lots of generators and collect there own water..........they do have mobile service now days............
red on top of the ground and white is the opal dirt from under ground............
lots of rocks........
one of the opal dirt dumps..........
One of the 3 pubs in the area the Glengarry Hilton............like no other Hilton in the world I am sure..........full of character and colourful characters though..........
this is pretty much an area you do what you want but the mining rules do apply.........
I did some stitching with Deb and on the car trip..............yes I know cream not the right colour to have in a dusty place but no dramas the quilt will get washed when it is finished..........and it's no dustier then home anyway............
sorting thru a handful of rocks...........
trying to work out what I am supposed to be looking for............
Yes I had to climb in and out this ladder..............OMG........that is the worst part..............
This is the bin that brings the dirt to the surface............forgot to take a pic on the top but it dumps straight into a truck............
tunnels running here and there............
so white..........
wow what an experience...........did I find anything........that you will never know......
BUT we had a great time and sure want to go visit again..........
thanks Mr Frog Cottage and Deb for having us...........
Catch you later.....
Chookyblue.....

What a great experience. We have been to Lightning Ridge once, but not to the other areas. It must have been quite something going down the mine...and topped of with stitching with a friend. You can't beat that.
Thank you for all the pictures--very interesting for sure. The ladder looks frightening!
