Its always sad when you drive into a paddock and the cows come running.......
it means they are hungry..........
a new baby..........
they come running following the ute........
chasing the bale of hay....
there is a slight hint of green but it is only a few mms long...........nothing for the cows to get hold of..........and no rain forecast to help it along so it is dying now.........
some stragglers........
Mr Chooky had dumped me to go get some others at the other end of the paddock...........I wanted to take pics.......they all stopped confused..........
then they saw /heard the ute again and off they went............
finally they got what they wanted............
poor Mumma isn't doing so well............the biggest feed/energy requirements for cattle are late in the pregnancy and the first 3 months with a calf............
cute or what..........
hang on Mum I want some milk......
splat.......
Catch you later...............
Chokyblue.............

Do hope you get some rain soon, it's not easy when the animals are hungry. We had a good start before Anzac, but not so much since, crops are up, but a good rain is needed. Lovely photos, that tell the story well, and that last one, I remember that stuff coming down on me, when we worked in the dairy!
I do hope you get some rain soon.. The cattle 🐮 need some of that nice green stuff.
It sure is dry down there and makes for a lot of extra hard work. Hoping for some rain and speedy growth for you.
I hope you get rain soon. The calf is so cute. Love those cows with white band. Hugs, xx
I'll be thinking RAIN, RAIN, RAIN for you. I wish you the best.
Doing a rain dance for you!!! Love learning more about your farm and the animals.
You have and OREO cow! I will send out many good thoughts into the universe that you will have the desperately needed rain!
Hope you get some rain soon. We havent had lots so far, enough but not the volume we got last winter.
Have you been feeding them for long? The little ones are so cute!!
Those babies are so cute...I too will hope for rain for you, it still looks dry. Love t ok see the cattle/sheep following a ute, never thought it meant they were hungry, thought they liked the food being fed out!! Silly townie huh!!
Even down south in Victoria we need rain. The days are glorious for June, but it is looking like a dry spring, which brings on other problems for summer. Our stock are being fed daily too although we have a green tinge, but as the cows are feeding calves, then the extra boost is required. It won't be long before our sheep lamb too, so with the extra mouths to feed, we also require rain for spring growth.
I see you have an Oreo cow. Is that a Galloway?
Mama Bear
Do I recognise a Belted Galloway? Now I am the furthest person you could find with cattle knowledge but the partner of my cousin in Tasmania is a well known breeder of these beautiful animals and I've heard and seen a lot about them. Last week they sent me articles from the local gazette about twins born recently on their property.
Now I have to study up on Oreo and see if I can find the one other readers are commenting on. Being a city person I was surprised to hear my cousin actually "schools" the cattle each morning leading up to Agfest so they know how to behave.
Hope you get some rain soon and the grass grows well! Those calves look healthy and strong - and very cute of course :-)
We have just had rain hope you get some soon.
Nice post - til the last photo!!
Yep I know that they have to go . . .
fingers crossed for rain - over an extended period.
doctors are always happy when (ahem) elimination still occurs so guessing vets feel the same...hope you get thru these challenging days without fatalities...
