I go away for one night and look what I find in the kitchen when I return...................they had better survive cause I am not wasting time I don't have on fiddly lambs.............and the kids are SOOOO excited...............introducing "Daisy" on the right - Fairy Girl thought of it..........and "Coke" on the left - thought of by Book Worm he wanted "rum" first but Mr Chooky blocked that one thank goodness..........
anyway I have lots more to share but you'll have to wait till I get time............maybe tomorrow otherwise who knows.............

ha ha memories...we had a couple of poddys...one was Kim and the other was Lamby for want of a better name and he thrived but poor Kim didn't... Best of luck with them!!!

I hear you about Twins... But lambs are so much cuter then Calves... Once we name our Twins they are there until we take all our calves to the market... So I guess you are stuck with the lambs as they have very cute names too.

aahh I had a pet lamb called daisy as a child (her Mum didn't want her). you will fall in love with them for sure and your kiddies will remember that for the rest of their lives - I still remember that time with such fondness. x
With all the snow, black frost and now rain, we have a lamb as well! Gave the first one to a friends daughter and then the nite before the snow hit, my son found another one, very small and only just born, but still here......they are cute, but they do waste time!

Very cute and like the names.
I grew up doing just that every Spring. We got the money for any lambs we hand raised and their wool clip if kept. It worked really well and made us quite a savings nest egg.I was very patient with animals and I think being kind and calm and caring helps, they learn to trust you.
They look as iof they are feeding greedily in the photo.
Ooohhhh...these 2 bring back some good memories!! We raised sheep for a lot of years. Many a morning during lambing season I would wake up to finding sweet little lambs in my bathtub!!!

Oh my gosh Chooky! Did mom refuse them or did you loose the Ewe? Either way it's a tough one. Been there, done that. One of my sister's ewes had triplets last spring. They lost mom and two of the three but were able to save "Emma". Problem is, Emma still thinks she is a little lamb and runs to her surrogate mother whenever she sees her (my sisters DIL) and tries to jump up in her arms like she did when she was about the size of Coke and Daisy. They have also tagged Emma so that she won't ever go to market nor be bred. Hope all goes well for you and the twins. Hugs...
I remember Dad telling us every year that there would be NO orphaned (therefore pet) lambs ....but of course he would always relent and we used to raise a small family of them! They would have boxes near the wood stove until they were strong enough to go into the shed.....ah...memories! oh...and btw....belated birthday wishes for the other day!! Would be happy to send some rain your way if only I could.

Your kids did a better job naming the lambs than mine did. We were visiting a holiday farm when the lambs arrived (the local farmers didn't look after the orphans, they dropped them off to the holiday farm) and our kids named them. Pencil, Thing, and no clue what the other one was! When we went back 6 weeks later the kids were surprised to find that the lambs names had been changed! Maree seems excited that it is raining at her place. Is it raining at yours?

Ooh that takes me back to when I had a farm in Devon UK,we would have orphan lambs and goats, really cute but so time consuming and the force with which they take the milk is amazing.

How lovely. They bring back so many memories. We used to have a few sheep on the farm I grew up on - mostly for meat for us. There was an old guy - sort of a hermit - who lived over the mountain from us and he had lots of sheep. He used to ring us whenever he had a ewe who either died in birthing or was unable/unwilling to care for her lamb. We had 14 at one point. I loved them. Can still remember all their names. We had the few, too, who were just too weak to make it. So many mornings, we drove over before school to pick up another little orphan and bring them home and warm them in front of our wood stove.
Unfortunately, they grew up way too friendly with our dogs and as a result no natural fear of wild dogs or dingoes, so some met not nice ends. I remember one little bloke - he used to go hunting with the dogs and try to chase the dingoes.
We had such fun playing with the lambs and feeding them each day. Have to be one of my favourite pets ever. Hope your kids enjoy these as much. No doubt my mother felt as you do - busy on a farm and already with way too much to do - but the memories you're creating will last your children into their adult years. Take care.
