fires, rain, lightning.............

Happily working away and I ended up here.......not the post I was planning for today and you never quite know what's going to happen next when you live on a farm............
thankfully it was stopped at the (very dry) creek...........
.......usually I am on the phone and radio organising the neighbours but today I was struggling to get onto people so I called Mr Chooky home and I hooked up to the fire cart with the car and met him along the road to save time............
a whirly wind on the burnt ground............
another whirly wind..........
dry cow poos smouldering........these are troublesome smouldering away........
several hours at the fire Mr Chooky dropped me back to the car and I came home..........he stayed there for an hour or more and then headed off to another big fire that had started about the same time as this one.......
storms were cranking up with lots of lightning........I was thinking here we go more fires............and then a storm came in.............dumping rain and hail..........blowing in everywhere..........the gauge said 4mls but it was twice that if not more.............
(yes that's the very long ladder I climbed up yesterday)
puddles all around...........
then more storms were brewing around..........
we caught some lightning in the photos..........

Fairy Girl got this one while I was dealing with calls for another fires.............
between the lightning and the little tree you can see some smoke going up..........
then we got another 6mls of rain..............
As I start to write this post yet another fire call out.............
...a tree burning from a lightning strike (UPDATE 2 trees burning)........
i'm tired I want to go to bed...........Mr Chooky went on his own this time but there is a neighbour there and another one coming so surely they can sort it out..............
I am soooo pleased we got some rain but OMG I am over the fires.............
Catch you later..............

The pictures say a lot. Get some rest....

as you say - you never know what's next - I'm sure 4ml isn't enough to justify the pain of the fires. either.

good grief girl! We're complaining about 34 inches of snow, but I'd take that any day to what you are going through! Hope the lightning ends soon and all you get is some rain. Keeping you and your neighbors in my thoughts and prayers.

There is never a dull moment living on a farm in the country! Hopefully, the rains will green things up and decrease the risk of fires.Try and rest today.

What a day. You must be exhausted, but at least there was some rain in it. Hang in there.

Hooray for rain and boo for the fires. This year there seems to have been somewhere on fire all summer. And so many places having trouble over and over again. Thanks for sharing this. Gives me a feeling of what it's really like there.

Thinking of you, what a time you are having with the drought, fires but not real flooding rains. Stay safe,

Hey Chooky, you are doing well.
I think so many of you in the fire zone are just tired : tired of being on vigil, tired of wondering where it is, when it's coming your way, and when will it end.
Hopefully there will be a few really good rain events come your way in the next week or so and put it out.
I don't like fire. I think you are all extremely brave.
Take care

wow. you have been through so much. I continue to pray for your area and that the fires can end soon.

Thank you for sharing with us and keep us posted on progress.

glad see you got some rain, but hate that it has also caused more small fire outbreaks. Hopefully the fires will die out and there won't be anymore of them.

What a time you are having - I will stop complaining about the brown grass and dying plants in the garden now!! Hope you get lots more rain (a little at a time :-)) and no more lightning! Look after yourself.
