What everyone needs.......

the weekend was feral to say the least..............from mid morning Saturday the wind started picking up the dust.............the just got worse as the day went on............till it was a dust storm..........it blew most of the night too............
Sunday was not as bad but not much better with dust picking up all day blowing thru...........working in it was just beautiful as you can imagine..............
Sat was 34 deg.................Sunday just 17deg..........needed my coat most of the day.............
Sat we moved all the cows home from the other property.....I climbed up the top of the truck to take some pics but it was a bit freaky with the wind so blustery - hence the crooked pic..........we've been feeding the girls out there for so long but changing feed and I think it's going to be daily so home they came..........will be easier to manage............thank goodness they all walked back off the truck.....they are all struggling as have little calves on them.....all the babies mothered back up............the tiny calves were all in another truck.........some of the older ones are still tiny but we will start weaning more this weekend coming..........
We have a new baby.............Ev.....we pulled her off mum as she was down and not well..........drugged Mum with everything we could and tried to get her up but she died.............Ev will take  a bit of quietening but she is drinking well already..........she is strong and feisty little lady........less then a week old.........
What everyone needs out here is an E and B...............
A retired couple who decided they wanted to go help somewhere............
found a facebook page for a CWA group and ended up in that town..........I met them there and they decided they would come and stay with us for a few days after they left that town........I thought oh yeh that would be nice but they won't end up here.............BUT they did............they stayed for a few days.........had to duck home for a few days and they are back again for nearly a week..............
E has taken on feeding all her babies...........this includes the weaners  - 69 of those...and the poddies....5 lambs and 3 calves..........
she's cooked dinner.....hung out washing that I have forgotten was in the machine........its amazing it goes into the washing machine and comes out folded on my bed...........she's dusted and ironed........roused on me for not having the afternoon off after town work............I did explain that if she didn't do her jobs then I would still be going for ages yet as she saved me that time.............I have managed to get in a couple of evenings before dark........and the company has been lovely................And they just go back out to there caravan and sleep.........
B has been helping Mr Chooky..........saved me some feeding trips.......fixed the trailer that was falling apart and used constantly...........what ever Mr Chooky has been doing he has been out helping with.........today I think they will be working on the calf weaning yards we are making.........and weighing and sorting out the new feed plan for the cows............
Feeding late yesterday.............OMG it was cold by the time I finished..........
It was dark when I finished so I got in lite the fire and had a hot shower to wash all the dust off and warm me up..........
Hope you are all well...........
Catch you later....... Chookyblue.....

That cold snap was horrible, we had rain and hail here, went from 19 deg C to 6. Yuck. Wonderful to see you have helpers, so happy they came to your place. Sounds like they could be needed for a while..are they retired farmers?

No they are not retired farmers.......never been farmers........E visited friends in her early life and would help with a few jobs but it was many many years ago.........
E keeps saying anyone can do this - what she is doing and it is true........

I cannot imagine.... Having helpers must be wonderful though. We are still feeling the effects of Hurricane Florence. I feel like it will never ever stop raining. We are in a good place, but serious flooding is going on all around us. I wish I could send some your way. A useless sentiment I know, but we can wish. Take care of yourself.

Blessings to E and B who are blessings themselves. Dust storm! What a pain combined with a drop in temp. Poor little Ev with no Mum. Hoping she does well xx

How lovely to have such lovely people help you. SOmetimes it is just the little things - having the washing folded and ironed or feeding the hoards of weaners for a day or two that can make all the difference. Enjoy your wonderful helpers.

What a godsend E&B are!!! I have some friends (grey nomads) who have done the same sort of thing. I hope they can stay a while...a long while.
Been similar here - hot Saturday - cold & windy Sunday - not as much dust for us of course.

So wonderful that you have help. The weather sounds awful, it's going to be another long hot summer. :-(

So glad you got a helping hand for a week. I heard that Blaze Aid are getting donations of holiday accommodations for farmers - and matching them up with volunteer farm caretakers, so the farmer will go away for a week. So please tell Mr Chooky that a weeks help is not a holiday (although gratefully received) and he is entitled to a real rest....as I am sure you and the kids do too. A break from the relentless reality of drought, to help your mental health....please think about it!

Glad you have some support, life seems relentless, hang in there. Hope you have seen some of the donated hay, although I guess it would not last long with a lot of mouths to feed.

E and B .....proof there is good in the world......it is exactly the help you guys need....practical and nurturing. And I suspect those little elves are getting as much from helping as you are from receiving....the circle of life! Bless you all.

E & B have been angels in disguise. What a lovely contribution they have made, on so many levels. Ev is a little sweety. I hope she does well.

I wish I could come and help you too like this amazingly wonderful couple are doing. I grew up going to my cousins farms on school holidays and we would all help with what ever was happening at the farm. Money donated will be helping you but cant buy this sort of help.
