cotton.......

Forever grateful for the humble cotton plant..........It creates so much joy for me.....its allowed me to make friendships......have this blog....create beautiful quilts.........so many things........
This is a cotton boll...........cotton plants in crops are much bigger then my little plant usually 1.2m............my little plant is only about 30cm high........but it is still alive into it's second year and bigger then it was last year........
Last year I got one cotton boll..........this year looks like I might get 6 all together..........
nice healthy plant......
Its even survived a trim from "Bridget".......she was naughty and got into the garden........
And look what you can buy from cotton...........I did have a voucher from my birthday last year and got carried away at "The Home Patch" and brought a bundle..........
For now I just keep patting the fabrics..........but i'll decide on something soon hopefully........
What do you have to thank cotton for on this rainy Saturday morning????
Catch you later...........
Chookyblue.......

Well, let me tell you. Cotton has brought us together in the cyberspace community. Cotton has been cleaning my ears and entertaining my hands with needles and thread. Cotton is my choice of underwear. Cotton is used for fishing nets and bookbinding and coffee filters, shoelaces, cattle feed, and furniture, cheesecloth, adhesive tape, and typewriter ribbons. Cotton is amazing.

That's so cool that you have your own cotton plant! One year on vacation we actually got to see fields of cotton from the highway. That's as close as I've ever gotten.

Interesting to have a cotton plant in your garden .
Cotton is an amazing plant and thankfully it’s now harvested by machine to be used so I can sew and wear nice comfy cloths.. 👍

It’s amazing what one plant provides. No rain here. Just a grey day.

Some years ago in Southern Spain with friends, we came across a field of cotton which we were all surprised by. Lovely to see and where would we be without it. xx

I thank cotton for my clothes--cause I can only wear cotton clothing (allergenic to all other fabrics it seems) and then of course I am thankful for cotton fabric--where would we all be with out quilting cotton and cotton threads???
hugs, di

Cotton makes me happy. I'm trying to finish up a blouse I started years ago making it from some rayon mix fabric. It is so hard to sew on that all I can think about is; "I wish this was cotton!" I know there are softer fibers out there but I love the crisp feel of cotton cloth. Your little cotton boll is adorable. Good luck with the other five.

I am impressed that you have your own cotton plant. That is a fun little twist in your garden.
Everything cotton does for us has already been mentioned, it seems. I am grateful for all of it!
Wow, is that last photo just what you took to the cutting counter, or did you truly buy by the bolt? Gorgeous fabrics!

Gorgeous prints. I think I would be stroking those every day as well.

Love the little cotton plant.

God bless.

How lovely having a cotton plant. Unfortunately, the plants are usually sprayed and I think the cotton is treated with something too but there are clothes made from organic cotton. I love pure cotton clothing but it is hard to find. I am most certainly grateful for the abundance of cotton quilting fabric , cotton thread, cotton tea towels, cotton sheets , bathntowels etc. It has an interesting history. No rain here yesterday and today is sunny too.

Wow, I'd say you did get a bit carried away, but who wouldn't with those gorgeous prints! Love your cotton plant, what a neat thing to have in your garden. I agree with commenters above me, cotton brings quilters together all over the world.

It's a really cute plant, and gosh, that fabric - scrumptious.
I just heard Anni is closing her shop and I never got to visit, that's really sad.

What a cool way to celebrate cotton by sprouting your own plant I would love to try that! And you spent your voucher wisely gorgeous supply of fabric to play with

How exciting - to have your very own cotton plant - it may not produce much but isn't mother nature wonderful. From that little shrub comes so many useful items... Imagine if, way back in time, no one worked out how to make use of those furry little balls. Would we all be sewing in hemp or reed material?
Enjoy your little marvel - does he/she have a pet name - I think I couldn't resist talking to it if it was mine... stay well chooky...xxx

Ohhhhhh how I just love cotton and especially seeing the cotton plants! I used to have one at one of our places we lived - perhaps I can get a cotton plant growing at this place!! I have blankets made from crocheting cotton yarn - cotton is all around me and used everyday in some shape or form from clothing to cleaning to sleeping in cotton sheets and using terry towelling to dry with! Cotton balls are used to clean wounds and to remove nail polish - where would we be without the humble cotton plant? Now ..... what do you plan to do with your harvested cotton I wonder??

I love seeing the cotton growing in the paddocks around Gunnedah and little splashes of white fluff stuck to the grass on the sides of the road after harvest.

Good to see you have a cotton plant in your garden, and yes where would we all be without the cotton plant? It has certainly changed my life since I discovered patchwork and quilting and met so many lovely people in the quilting and blogging world. Look forward to seeing what you do with those fabrics?

I never thought of growing my own little cotton plant.... I will have to see if plants/seeds are available in NZ! That's awesome.
