replying to comments..........

As I was so far behind in my blog reading (still catching up) being a bit of a distance down some commment lists I have seen the blog author replying to comments in the comments list..................

does anyone reply to me in this way and maybe you could tell me why you do it this way (so i understand why)  as once I have left a comment I never go back there again.............do I need to???

when someone leaves a comment on my blog I get an email sent to me.............I simply read the email click reply and reply to the sender - what do you do???? How do you reply??? Do you reply???

&&&&&&&
I just saw a blogger saying they were going to reply to comments this way - I just don't understand why - not that it is wrong thing to do but I never go back to peoples comments page once I have left one...........

Does all this make sense????? Am I rambling???? If you reply to me in your comments I would never know..........
Enjoy your Sunday off to garden...........

.........take care til next time.....Chookyblue.........
PS I always reply to comments (well 99% of the time) unless your "no reply")

I've seen a few blogs where they reply in the comments and I wondered why because I never go back to those comments either. Like you...I get an email when someone leaves a comment and I reply to that. Well, until lately when I've spent more time on the road and at the hospital than on the computer. But I hope to be able to reply to comments via email again soon! :0)

I have replied to some comments in the comment section because it is often a question that I felt others might want to know the answer to as well. So instead of replying to the same question lots of times I answer it in the comments. I read lots of comments on blogs so hopefully others do too. x Janelle

I wonder why too, because I never go back to the comments I leave either. Like you I usually send a mail back to those who leave comments. And if they are no-reply-blggers I go to their blog and leave a comment. .... and sometimes tell them I would like to reply by mail if it had been possible.

I do the same as you, that is reply to the email I receive with the comment after I click on the publish button. However, if the reply to the comment is something that I think others who read that post would be interested in, then I will also add my own comment onto that post with the same reply as what I sent in the email. Other than that, I very rarely go back to the comment sections of any of my own posts.

I set my comments to come to my email and then hit 'reply'. If they are no-reply I simply move on....

If someone's question is interesting enough to reply in the comments, I would think a post would be in order.

However, people can do what they want, they just can't expect everyone to know what's going on if they do it differently.

There is a facility where you can get all the comments of a particular post emailed to you when it's not your blog - I quickly stopped that as it was just too confusing and too much volume...

Is there a list somewhere of blog etiquette? I've been using common sense and courtesy and hoping for forgiveness if I've done the wrong thing...

Totally agree with you! My pet peeve is those who post a comment but have a "no reply" email address, so you can't hit the reply button!!

I receive an email when a comment is made and do try my best to answer them all......I never go back to comments that I make...

I'm with the majority, I never return to the comment list after I've left my comment, and I reply to mine via email. It's never occurred to me to go back and check their list for a reply, I guess if they've done that then I've missed it. I don't expect people to reply - I realise we all have busy lives, but it's always nice when you do get one :o).
Hugs,

I have the same system as you I get them emailed and reply them. I some times don't reply not becouse I am rude just that time is not there. But I never go back to a blog after leaving a comment . Take care and enjoy the garden I will with a good book I thing or some stitching.

yes you are rambling!! Lol.
I do know some bloggers reply in the comments. I have a theroy, firstly they themselves may be 'no reply' commentors by choice and they don't want their email address out there (cannot imagine why). another may be that they get asked the same question more than once and this way only have to answer once. I for one do not like it, wouldn't do it and I don't got back looking for answers.

I completely agree with you. I never go back to comments once I've been there. I think people do it because it's faster -- for example, they can type up replies to the last five comments with just one entry.

I was very surprised the other day when one person made a comment, a second person commented on that comment and then the first person replied to the second person -- all in my comments. How did the first person know to come back and check for any responses to her comment?

I always answer my comments and whenever someone blogs that they're going to start replying to comments in their comments, I always let them know that if they reply to a comment of mine, I won't be there to read the reply. ;-)

I get notified by email and I try to reply to most of them if I can timewise :) Barb.

I don't usually reply via the comments...once left, don't go back....I'm like all the others, get an email when a comment is left and usually will send a quick reply (just think that polite...to say thanks).

Having said that, I've got a competition on and been asked the same question quite a few times, so posted a comment myself, but also did a post to cover the answer.

Have a great weekend...what's left of it!

I never reply to comments as a comment unless it's info that would benifit all of my readers (what kind of fabric did I use, whaere did I dind the fabric etc...) BUT I always reply to the email of the comment if there's a question.

I'm with you, I don't go back but I have seen some bloggers that reply in their comments. I reply to every comment the same way you do except if it's no reply blogger.

Hey Donna! I'm with you - I get the notifying email that someone has left a comment on my blog, I reply to the emails unless they're a no reply blogger. For a while, i would follow those no reply bloggers back to their blogs and leave a comment somewhere, but just find now that I don't have time to blog hop as much, so unfortunately, don't get to reply to the no-reply bloggers. I have seen a few blogs, like Lynette Anderson's, that are almost like a forum where people comment on other comments and Lynette answers. I like the personal approach so go with that - I've made lots of fun blogging buddies that way! :0) Bear Hugs! KRIS

Yep, I'm with you!! Reply to the emails as they come in - would never have time to go back and check old posts again!

On occasion I have replied to a comment in situ but for the most part I am just delighted to read other people's response. Unless something really rings bells for me I don't reply to comments.

I'm only very new to blogland and since reading your comments i have now worked out how to turn on my email notification of comments so that i can reply that way also. I have previously left them in the comments section as i didn't know there was any other way...... Thanks & keep up the beautiful work!

I like to reply to comments (same way you do)but I leave loads of comments on blogs and don't get a reply and I really don't expect it.
If I say to someone that I like the quilt that they made I don't expect them to respond and say thanks for liking it !
If I asked a direct question about the name of the fabric or something it is nice to get a reply ...but I think the key is not sweat it all too much.
Sometimes I can answer every comment on a post and sometimes none....

I never go back and read the comments either.
I reply (or try to !) to every comment made on my blog

It all makes perfick sense to me Chooky. I moderate my comments. They are waiting for me on my dashboard, after I have published them, they are forwarded to my email account and I can reply from there. Like you, I never go back to someone's comment page. If I feel that a public answer is required then I would reply to the comment in my next post

dutchcomfort said...

I was preparing a post about this, because I noticed people responding in the comment section. Like you I never go back to see if people left a reply in their comment section.

The comments on posts arrive in my email inbox. WordPress has changed comment settings, so I need to type the right emailaddress in my reply email, otherwise it ends up in the commentary box. I try to reply to every comment, but when I’m busy or blogging every day, like now, it’s just too much to do. Sometimes I thank everybody for their visits and comments in a post.

I reply to the e-mail I get, never in the comments.

I do answer in the same way as you do but if it is an no reply blogger I sometimes go back to their own blogg and leave a message there. But I guess I do not alway answer a comment due to life , somethimes I must take care of my familie and maybe some sewing too ;-))
And another thing: If a new to me blogger leave me a comment I always answer with an e- mail and later on I pay them a visit at their own blogg and leave them a comment too. It is important to me!

Thankyou for mentioning this...as I'm fairly new to blogging and I only recently noticed this...it confused me even more as to the proper blogging etiquette as far as commenting goes. I try and reply to comments via email(like you)...but have noticed ALOT don't reply at all! lisa

Jodie said...

I'm with you too on this one Chooky... Definitely don't do the replying in comments section unless someone has asked a question and they are a no-reply, I'll then either answer it in the comments or in the next blog post..

Cheers

I reply to every comment that's left on my blog unless it's a 'no-reply' and then I move on. I never return to the same post a second time. Gosh, it would be never-ending then, wouldn' it?

I think if a person took the time to leave a comment, it's important for me to also 'make' the time to reply. I have also replied to a question in the comments section if it is something that I think might be of common interest...but I also personally reply to that same individual.

Cass said...

I do the same as you and I try and respond to most comments. The no-reply ones bug me a bit but that is the bloggers choice. I do see the replies in the comments sometimes and I think there are certain services your can get that do that (JS - Kit is one - I think kootooyoo uses that one) but personally I don't go back and check comments unless I have specifically asked a question and I know they reply in the comments

PiecefulChaos said...

I never go back to the comments of someone's blog after I leave a comment either. I think if I wanted to answer a general question I would post it on the blog itself. I have a friend who recently started a blog but didn't know that she could have comments emailed to her. Perhaps that is why someone would reply in the comments- not knowing email is available for comments.

paront1222@comcast.net said...

What Terry said...I get an email and reply to that IF I feel it warrants a reply. If I don't feel a reply is warranted then I will go to the person's blog and see what's going on in their life and I can usually comment on that.
I am not trying to be rude but everyone is busy and we cannot possibly reply to everyone, there just aren't enough hours in the day.

Hey Chooky.. I try to get a comment back to everyone that comments on my blog..sometimes I try to keep up with everyone and what they are doing as well.. then like you I get overwhelmed on try to keep up with everyone.. so I have to mark sometimes that I have read all and start over...
I feel guilty when I don't comment on all the blogs that I have read cause everything is so wonderful and I don't expect a comment back everytime only if I ask a question..I know what it is like to be online and try to get some quilting done at the same time..LOL

Well I wouldn't let it turn my hair grey, grin! Like you I don't go back to the comments cause most of the time I do get an email from the blogger (I am not a blogger, just addicted to reading them all, grin). Following about 300 blogs it's kinda hard to remember who you wrote a comment on, so it's nice when the one who owns the blog answers you personally at your email addy. Barb in western NC, USA

Hey Donna...I am blogspot..how do I get the comments sent to my email?? You are my go to for blogspot!!!!

I kind of like the dialog that is opened when the blog author makes comments in her own comment section, becomes a bit of a chat room. Most people do not expect this to happen unless it has been typical of the blogger to do so right from the beginning of her blog history. I think it is okay to answer questions for the next blogger who comes along and happens to read what came before her comments...I like to read what others have to say. Isn't that the idea of sharing thoughts by leaving comments?

I'm with you. But I don't get so many comments that I can't answer them. Besides - that' how we form blogging friendships don't you think?

Hi. I do the same as you. And thats because you helped me out when I got in a pickle as a new blogger. Remember those 500 emails I didn't know existed! Setting up a gmail account was great advice ... I use it exclusively for blogging, shop newsletters, shopping ... everything vaguely quilty. I try to reply to all comments, even if it takes awhile sometimes! Used to try and locate 'no-reply' people but don't as much anymore. Just not enough time. And like you I never return to a comments page once I've left a comment. Why would you?
