For me, having something to open "right NOW" makes it easier to wait to open the main package.
I don't know if you are wanting to change the swap but the only other thing that I could think of is if there was a "theme" to the swap. . .like pillows, or sewing accessories, or table runners.
But that could be a little tricky without getting more information from everyone (not every table is the same size, for instance.
I love seeing all the different items that everyone comes up with -- all the packages are so very different.
Perhaps the patterns used could be posted on the individual websites after all the gifts are received (that way those of us with pattern acquisition syndrome could go hunting for them)! LOL
Ok, guess I've gone on long enough. I love your swap and have had wonderful partners so I will just wait to see if you decide to run it again this year.
It is alot of work, perhaps you could name an assistant to help with the burden?
I too love the idea of an ornament as it is so exciting to receive a pressie in the mail, and being able to unwrap the "ornament" takes the desire to unwrap the main until it is supposed to be on Christmas day. Also I have participated over the past 3 years have 3 lovely ornaments on our tree and looking forward to the next!!! Yes a "theme" also sounds good Sherry.
i have not been in 1 yet but i hope to this year if you run one ,the way you run it sounds perfect the way it is and i say that because you have so many people doing SSCS so they must be happy with it. I have so enjoyed looking at all the gifts people have recieved and what joy it has given to people,so Chooky i say to you what a fantastic job you have done to make so many people happy and delighted. I love it the way it is now - with one small item to open asap and one for later (it's also been fun to try to figure out two things to make too). On our miniature-Christmas tree we had ornaments from the last few years too, and it's fun to see the difference between them - yet they all are so adorable!
I think that - for those who'd like to know the pattern the maker used - perhaps the maker of the different items could perhaps post a picture of what they made around the same time as chooky posts her lovely posts picturing all the items, and then those who were interested in the pattern for one (or more) items could go to that person's blog and get all the information they needed. It would also have been fun to read what (if any) inspired the maker to chose that particular pattern or colours, if they made any tweaks or personalizations to the pattern, etc. (I'm generally horrible at keeping to a pattern, and will in most cases do some tweaks or changes when I make things..)
Oh, and yes, an assistant - if you need/want one, I'm sure there are many who'd sign up (me included)!
I love it the way it is. Having the one present to open and the big gift for Christmas day.....also agree with posting what patterns if any were used. I made my own pattern for the stitchery and the quilt itself, and that would be a good thing to know. As there are several that I have contacted already to find out where they purchased their patterns from.
Hi Chooky, looks like the poll is speaking loudly honey. I really enjoyed being part of the whole thing and my only suggestion, which is one htat I think you asked for is... that when someone receivestheir parcel and opens their ornie that they post about it. Otherwise the is doubt left with the sender.
You don't mess with perfection!! This is the best swap ever. I've been in quite a few over the last 3-4 years, and this one has the best participants. In others, I've received gifts that have been a big disappointment--but not here. Every picture has been of a lovely gift-all quality items. So I say keep the format and the participants the same--you can't beat them!! Love this swap!!
I haven't been in your SSCS yet I did nearly sign up for the last one but just got snowed under with other projects... It seems to me that everyone enjoys your swap immensely and I for one love looking at all the presents received... I also seems that your swap has grown in size over the past couple of years ''maybe put a cap on how many participants'' to make this easier for you in the organizing and keeping track of parcels...
Like lots of other comments, I too like a pre-present to open but I think we should ALL think what ever is EASIER for YOU! I can only imagine the work you put into this swap. I also think it's good to know what to expect each year as in we don't have to have theme etc. Hope you get the answers you need, look forward to 2011 SSCS.
Found out about your swap too late to join last year but would like to this year if I can. Format sounds good as is. Everyone who participated seems to like to open one present when received and keep other for Xmas Day.
I'm loving all of the pix I'm seeing scattered over blogland regarding this swap, it really is a great swap and you do an awesome job organising it Chooky...

I love the way it is now. One present to unwrap directly and one waiting under the christmastree.

I like opening the ornament and putting it on the tree and enjoying it the days leading up to Christmas.

I loved being a part of the swap for the first time! I liked it just the way it was!
I love the swap as it is! An ornament to open when the package arrives and a bigger gift to open at Christmas.
