jelly roll fun............

I shared this photo with you the other night........receiving all kinds of comments.......lol........cheeky girls........
the off cuts were from joining all these strips.............
what for you may ask...........well I saw this on Tracee's blog on Thursday and thought i've got a jelly roll that would be fun...........
so onto a jelly roll race..............I timed myself and it took 35 mins to join the ends of the strips with some thread issues I had to sort out too................then 1hr15 to get the strips joined..............absolutely no idea how that lady got it together in 35mins...........Peg made one too over the weekend and she was bit quicker joining the ends of the strips together but about the same time to join the strips............
but here is the top.......I just kept joining the ends of the strips as I picked them up in the order of the roll..........now all mixed up..............it's a pretty good size 63x51in............I used a "Peace on Earth" jelly roll..........love that range............now if I could find some yardage for a border that would be great.............and I have a couple of ideas to jazz it up a little...........not that it needs it I like it for a super quick simple quilt.............
Tracey (Oz Mum) had a play with the jelly roll race too while she was on retreat.................go towards the bottom of this post to see it..............
^^^
the girls sewing into the wee hours.............
Catch you later..............

The quilt-top looks fabulous!! What a terrific idea!!! I reckon it would look great as is, or even with some great big daisies applique'd on it too. Oh, and the gawjus purple fluffy slippers peeking out from under it are to die for lol.

I noticed that Tracey had / joins in her quilt which lead me to wonder what width you have made them; wonder even more now that I do not see joins in yours.
I have some scrap bags minus selvedge so they should be fun to join up in this way. I made one as Chinese coins, initially hated it but grew to love it before it went to Africa to fistula hospital.
So, in that ramble, I am asking what width have you used?

I did one of these a couple of months ago and posted about it on my blog.....you can do it in 35 minutes if you already have the strips sewn together and laid out so that it is not tangled up at your feet.....I made mine in 38 mins. which included a mess up with the strips turning the wrong way.....after I finally got it under control going my way it was easy......but you do have to do the prep work first.....yours looks really nice.....I will be making the grands one for Christmas this year....

Oh, that jelly roll race looked like lots of fun! I have often timed my quilting, but I have never raced to see how quilt it could be done :o) Love the look of those "Peace on Earth" strips sewn together - and look forward to seeing what you do to finish it!

eh... "how quilt it could be done"???? Sorry not sure if that was just a typo or a Freudian slip *lol* Should be "quick" :o)
