my days are busy..........if not with town work, kids stuff, Mr Chooky is needing me every free day.............
I wished I had my phone with me while I was driving the tractor and feeder the other day with all the cows in front of me running along to the feed troughs it looked pretty cool.......i thought of you lot.......actually it's probably safer that I didn't have it I was a bit wild driving it...........it's a very old tractor........
&&&
We've just had a couple of days doing cattle work at another property............I snapped some pics on my phone as we went along.............
"r@pe" - (wild canola below) should be much higher then this it barely a foot.......this stuff can grow to about 6foot or more in a good season...........it's shot up into head and flowered fast running out of moisture........
found this pig in a mud puddle...........he was sick and got stick in it..........
if you look closely in the right of this pic in the shadows I snapped a live one running away................I tried to catch it but no luck..........it's about the size of a medium dog.........
mustering .........
It's so rough on this country it's black cracking soil and just gets holes anywhere when dry.............it is very rough on a 4 wheeler bike and while mustering cattle sometimes i'm racing along hanging on for dear life..........you can drop a tyre into them..............
weighing the steers..............
hours on a bike mean numb bum sometimes but I got a break from the physical work poking down a lane with these............
the clouds were wispy..........
wide open plains...............gorgeous...........
clouds even cleared away.........
One day was pretty warm and the next was freezing.........you can spot me coming with my bright beanies...............
All this activity means no time to sew.........i'm too tired when i get home after 11hours out to do anything except wash some more clothes and fill the dishwasher.........
&&&
We also had a "ladies" RFS (Rural Fire Services) training day for the ladies in out brigade........after all the fires in the last season we have been pretty active......so look out husbands we know a bit more now........we're not off to fires other then in our area......but we are the first response .....and of course we got to enjoy a good social day catching up with each other.....yummy morning tea and lunch..........
&&&
Every "free" day is going to be be with Mr Chooky for the next month or so, so I may be quieter here.......unless you get more farm stuff.............
It's a unique experience living and working on a farm...............I would not swap it........
.........take care til next time.....Chookyblue......... |

It's a real labour of love.....hard work but rewarding I'm sure.
It takes special people to work a farm! Good luck at mustering and stay safe on that tractor! :)
Great post Chooky...you farmers are exceptional workers and get so much done...ouch to the numb bum!

Never unhappy to see a snip of life on the farm.

Bet Mr Chooky is loving all the help
Love the selfie Thats not really a selfie because we can't see you....LOL... What would farmers do without their wives.Take care
Busy times, but you still look gorgeous! Hope you have your farm shoes on!
So interesting to see all about your farm life and how the countryside is so different from ours. I love those photos of mustering with the cattle and the big blue skies. Interesting to see you have the black wild pigs too - they are causing havoc here right now digging up the paddocks. Thank you for sharing.
What an exciting life and so different from mine....
What a shame the canola is not looking so great! The farmers round here have some good crops of canola going. Nice pics, take care on the bike!
Hugs Sharm
I wouldn't swap it for the world either. Nice to get so e fresh air and out working with the cattle Hope you get some rest soon.
You are certainly a very hard working woman! Lovely photographs and you do live in lovely countryside. I hope the pace lets up just a little so that you can fit in a bit of "me" time somewhere soon.
x
It's facinating, seeing how things work on the other side of the world. Our farmers have their own complaints and hardships, but I'm willing to bet very few of them would trade for yours.
Enjoy your time with Mr Chooky.
Loved seeing your farm pics - Sure can be rough as guts careening around on the four wheelers! Great about the RFS - what a good idea to have the ladies so involved.. We had a fire here again the other day - they think caused by a careless cigarette butt out the window. Too dry for that nonsense.
Never a dull moment on a farm - great photos. Thumbs up to your lady fire fighters - a fabulous idea. Floods, drought, fire, rain - bet you wouldn't swap it for any other lifestyle to - and fabulous way for children to grow up - they learn so many values and principals that stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives!
I always enjoy these posts, thanks for sharing.
Always wonderful to see the cows and you of course.
lovely seeing what you get up too.. so busy at the farm...
Hugz
Besides the physical side it sounds and looks wonderful
Great post! Despite all the adverse weather conditions you up have to deal with you do live in a stunning part of the state.
Lovely photos!
Poor pig! Always love your farm pics, take care out there....
Hope you get some rain soon...I'd send you some of ours if I could...but definitely don't have any warm to send up, brrrrrr....
How different our lives can be! I am a city girl and love seeing what you do on your farm. It is utterly amazing what you can turn your hand to. I take my hat off to all of you!
