beginning craft.............

Over the weekend I had a neighbour over to visit we were talking about a outfit I though I had and went in search of it.............hmmmmmmm not luck finding the outfit and I knew where it should have been so I must have thrown it out but what I did find was some old craft I have not seen for years .................forgive the quality but I think most of it was done in primary school................

Mr Rabbit is currently sleeping with fairy girl.............I think it was a project to pass a badge in Brownies or Guides............

Not sure where I made this foul orange bag but look at the blanket stitch..........pretty wild but I was just young............lol..........by the time you get to the next letter you can't see it is almost reverse blanket stitch.........lol......

Mushroom wall hanging............

such neat even stitches...................NOT.........lol

Even had a go at Hobby Text (is that what it was called) I know my mum had it but this was done in Guides..............I was in the Rosellas group...............we also had Lyrebirds........

Loved Smurfs at the time............also think we traced these pics as I am not a good drawer..........

These yellow ones were completed in Yr 3 or 4 at school so i was 9 or 10 years old......this yellow material must have been cheap..............hand stitching

My first needlekeeper completely hand sewn...............thankgoodness my sewing skills have improved since then...........I think I choose the red and purple as our stitches had to "show up" and we had to decorate it with stitches........

machine stitching here............same yellow see what I mean we did have a lot of it............

the cover of my needle work sampler.........

various hand stitches.............

and a few more fancy ones.............

finally I remember doing this with the Nun's..............this Nun was particularly strict ..........we pulled the threads out first and then stitched through........such neat knots on the back...........I was definitely in Yr 3 or 4 so i am very proud of the neatness of my stitching.............

Until I got all this together I didn't realise how much childhood sewing I had kept.........I am also very pleased that I did keep this.........could have been thrown out on a whin like the dress I was looking for......I wished I had the opportunity to do more and I have very happy memories from all these projects...............
.....makes me so pleased i am sewing with fairy girl and bookworm (ds)............hopefully they will have fond memories like me in years to come..........
Do you still have some sewing craft from your childhood????? Or am I the only collector which I seriously doubt............

  1. Wow, you have so much left from your childhood. And mostly sewing projects. Did you also learn to knit in school or maybe it was too hot? In Holland, in elementary school in the fifties and sixties we were taught mostly how to knit, crochet and embroidery.

  2. I love your childhood crafts from your school days. I remember always hating sewing at school, and strangely enough I still have a piece of work, which I will now have to dig out and photograph.
Your treasured crafts look pretty good. The bunny is great. Fairy Girl has good taste!

  3. What a sweet post! Isn't it fun to look back and see what we did? I still have the first sampler I did but not sure how much else -- probably my mom has some stuff -- mom's are like that you know LOL!

  4. Oh my, that brings back memories! We had to do sewing in primary school I HATED it, I wanted to do woodwork instead. I have one piece of stitching, my initials in chain stitch! I also got an F in sewing in high, my sewing teachers would die of shock if they could see how much sewing I do now!

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

  9. What great memories - thanks for sharing them with us - I don't have any thing like that I didn't start sewing until I was in high school.

  10. My first ever project on the sewing machine, (mother's beast of a thing she received on her 21st birthday and still uses) was an apron made with the green fabric with the umbrella print you have in your needle work collection. How strange. I think I made it when I was seven and probably still have it in a box somewhere. It was only a half apron and I like full ones, and make a lot of them now. Thanks for sharing.
