Lest We Forget..........

ANZAC DAY

25th April 1915 is a day never to be forgotten in our history. Landing at Gallipoli a battle began and lasted for 8 months in which 8000 Australian soldeirs were killed. This day has gone on to become a day Australian's and New Zealanders commemorate all soldiers who have sacrificed there lives for our country. Soldiers past and present are honoured on this day. There are services at various locations in Europe also. As a school student I always marched with school and my children participate now.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.

(Laurence Binyon (1869–1943) whole poem For the Fallen)

Thanks for reminding us. You don't hear about ANZAC day here in the U.S. but I grew up in England and well remember the parades going to the cemetery on that day.

We will remember them...

It is a day tinged with sadness and also hope, dont you think, Donna? For some reason we always go back to our early memories of this day - see my Post! I am so pleased that our Vietnam Vets are honoured, and also our brave young men and woman who are still serving our county on this very day!
Hugs - Lurline♥
